The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in implementing video review systems.
Replay technology will be launched at Wimbledon this year.
Players are granted the ability to challenge certain calls made by the official, mirroring the protocol currently in place at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.
This technology will be accessible on the main stadium and Court One for the duration of the tournament and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles contests.
This development arrives only a year after the AELTC implemented ELC, which terminated the centuries-old role of line judges.
Reviewable Decisions
Competitors cannot to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but they can request the official to review specific situations, such as:
- If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- If a ball touched an opponent's racquet or body on the way past.
- Potential interference at the conclusion of a rally.
Notably, there is no limit on the amount of reviews a player can initiate.
A Recent Example
An illustrative case took place in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.
Draper admitted it was a tough call for the official, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
The umpire watched a video and ruled Draper was responsible for hindrance, granting the point to Medvedev.
Broader Adoption
This technology are not exclusive to major tournaments. It was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by next season the ATP circuit will have video reviews in place at all of its events.
Further Updates
A further innovation at Wimbledon this year will be the addition of visual indicators on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This addresses instances where fans have sometimes been unsure whether a shot was in or out.
In other news, with exactly a century of days remaining until the start of the Championships, the AELTC have further revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
